It's slower admittedly, but I've played in/run games before. It's not as good as proper face-to-face roleplaying, but, in my case at least, beggars can't be choosers. If the only way I can get a roleplaying group together is virtually, then so be it.
Unfortunately, one of my players is a number of time zones away. So much so that the only time he'd be able to play is when I'm asleep, and vice-versa. Let alone getting the rest of my players to a) install irc, and b) all be online at the same time for a lengthy period of time.
This way, it's more like a slowly developing piece of communal fiction in some ways, but it does work surprisingly well, and doesn't take up too much of my already-minimal time...
Go on, give it a try- you never know, you might like it... :-)
Vampire's the simplest of the games, I think- especially compared to Mage (my favourite, and one of the most complex). I think there may be a quickstart pack for download from www.white-wolf.com. I'll check and see...
agreed, if you can get your head round Mage, vampire should be no problem at all, you just have to remember that discplines aren't as versatile as spheres (by a huge margin), oh and sunlight is not your friend.
