Ah well, guess I'll just learn as I go with this one :)
We're adding an SQL server to the network at some point soon and whilst I've been learning a lot of running the systems over the last year, the thought of having to figure out more permissions crap worries me...
easy, set your sql server to use windows authentication (not mixed mode) and users will only be able to access it if they have valid windows logon credentials.
you can also do some stuff in active directory server to restrict access by groups, roles, etc.
