Blood Bowl

[livejournal.com profile] matgb got me playing my first game of Blood Bowl in ages. It may come as no surprise to anyone that knows me that I feileded an undead team, against his orcs
I won.

Now, this is moderately unusual in itself, although my tactic of knocking over players and then jumping on their heads until they were injured was quite effective. As was Mat's habit of screwing up dice rolls.

It's only when we got to the end of the first half (all we had time for), that we discovered, after counting the 4 injured/dead players and the 4 KO'd players of his, that he still had 4 remaining on the pitch. Which meant he'd actually fielded a team that had one too many players on the pitch. And still lost. Badly.

I shall now glee a little, at least until the next time he successfully one ups me :-)

WOW! Another Blood Bowl player! I really love that game. I myself am an ex-player but I know [livejournal.com profile] connexion is still running a league in Portugal which is pretty good considering most leagues die within a month or so! I myself used to field an Orc based team but this is going back to edition two, where mixed chaos was still available so obviously the thought of having all the top 'chaotic' races and abilities was too much of an opportunity to miss (yes even with the animosity rule). ; )

Undead are absolute BASTARDS in league games! With thier neverending amount of Star Player points that they really don't stop gaining, they really can be rather annoying teams to face if used by an experienced player.

Tis my favourite game. First fantasy style game I ever played as well, might be part of the appeal.

I know of a few players in the Reading area, I think. Not sure if they're still playing, but they go to Drop Zone usually, I'll ask.

But yeah, was going to use the new Elf rules, but had the wrong box of figures, ah well.

There are people that play in Reading AND they go to Drop-Zone?!!! Holy smokes! Do you know if there is a league being run at the minute?

Yeah. No idea about a leauge, and they split up, so might be a sensitive subject, but there are definately players. C'mon, it's a club full of goths, of course some of them are gamer geeks, goes without saying.

Might set up some sort of free standing league for anyone interested in the general London travel-to area, should be fun anyway...

I agree but most them have 'moved on' that I know of and AD&D seem a much more acceptable form of gaming to the sweat-filled, over-priced underage atrocity that is Games Workshop! Don't get me wrong I love GW, but to find other people my own age that love it is quite rare...until now that is. : )

*cough*

Worked for them for 11 years. Got the jacket ad everything. Never could stand AD&D. As for overpriced? If it really was, they wouldn't have gone nearly belly up nearly five times in the last 15 years. It's not that their stuff is overpriced, it's that the industry generally is full of amateurs covering their costs and having fun. But let's not go there...

Besides, Blood Bowl frequently gets an honorary pass as a non-GW game, even the haters will play it, no idea why.

Really?! I never knew that. I was just referring to the fact that they have the bollocks to now sell TWO miniatures for £8 when back in the mid to late 90's you could pick the same figues up for about £3. In financial trouble or not, they're still a big con and pretty bad value for money..IMO.

That's it people... if I go to London/UK with some time, maybe I can take my goblin team and we can organize a mini-tournament...? ;)

5-6 players, 2-3 random games each, tally up scores, highest scoring teams fight a final.
1100000 per team, teams 'regenerate' fully after each game, one player per team being awarded a skill on each game and 2 skills (or one special skill) being alocated for the final.

Roughly speaking this is how our current league is being run. We have 5 players.
