I recently rediscovered an old mp3- a song called Dragon Road which will amuse anyone who's played D&D. And probably a fair few other people as well. I thought I'd share the lyrics.

Incidentally, if anyone knows who it's by, I'd love to know...

It was on the 3rd of August, and we were on our way-
Half a dozen horses and a wagonload of hay.
There had been a party, hangovers galore-
Our clerics were unconscious and our fighters saddlesore…

Chorus:
And there were dragons, dragons, flying o’er the road,
Wyverns all around us and behind us yellow mold.
And there were orcses, orcses, filling all the woods-
They all jumped upon us because we were Lawful Good!

We were not discouraged, we were set to fight.
But we had drunk two gallons of the finest wine last night.
Sir Horace was dishevelled, Sir Percy was the same,
And the elf who travelled with us was too drunk to know his name.

Chorus:
And there were dragons, dragons, flying o’er the road,
Wyverns all around us and behind us yellow mold.
And there were orcses, orcses, filling all the woods-
They all jumped upon us because we were Lawful Good!

The dragons got the horses, the orcs got even more.
And chewing on the wagon was an ugly manticore.
We finally woke our wizard, he would make them pay-
But he really pulled a boner when he mumbled spells that day.

Chorus:
And there were dragons, dragons, flying o’er the road,
Wyverns all around us and behind us yellow mold.
And there were orcses, orcses, filling all the woods-
They all jumped upon us because we were Lawful Good!

His fireball misfired, his lightning missed it’s mark,
And soon the party found itself encased in total dark.
He tried to polymorph things, that dirty ancient louse-
We did not think it funny when Sir Kay became a mouse…

Chorus:
And there were dragons, dragons, flying o’er the road,
Wyverns all around us and behind us yellow mold.
And there were orcses, orcses, filling all the woods-
They all jumped upon us because we were Lawful Good!

Our fighters bravely battled, but it was all for naught:
For we had not the measure of the monsters that we fought.
‘Twas our bard who finally saved us, for he could do no wrong.
He really had them running when he belted out this song!

Chorus:
And there were dragons, dragons, flying o’er the road,
Wyverns all around us and behind us yellow mold.
And there were orcses, orcses, filling all the woods-
They all jumped upon us because we were Lawful Good!

And there were dragons, dragons, flying o’er the road,
Wyverns all around us and behind us yellow mold.
And there were orcses, orcses, filling all the woods-
They all jumped upon us because we were Lawful Good!

Oh, yeah. This was written by someone whom I knew in the Society for Creative Anachronism (a medieval re-enactment group: www.sca.org ) named Cipriano d' Alvarez. That was his Society name. I don't remember his mundane (real) name.

Oh, and it should be "Lawful Goods", plural; i.e., goods lawful to acquire by the rules of the game. Rhymes with "woods" too!

:-)

Cool. Who might you be,if you don't mind me asking? (If you do mind me asking, it's a little late, which makes me wonder about the point of the original statement, but I digress...)

Sir Cipriano...

I've also heard that while he composed the song he was not the one who wrote it. I have heard from certain sources that he was drunk under the table while coming up with this song and that a lady friend wrote it down while he was singing it...
