Fun with swords
Oct. 7th, 2004 08:26 amLast night, I went to sword training for the first time, and it was great fun. I was mostly using broadswords, but I did get to use a mortuary sword as well (it's like a straight, longer cavalry sabre). Also discovered that, while I'm right-handed normally, I appear to be equally adept with my left and right hands, which is nice. Unfortunately, my right forearm and wrist are knackered today, as I did a lot more work with my right before starting to switch. Still, who knows, one day I might be able to do a Princess Bride. Also, I'm hoping this might help with my speed when I go back to doing unarmed combat- one of the first things we're learning in sword training is doing the basic moves increasingly fast. So hopefully some of that speed will carry across to my unarmed strikes- particularly as I won't have to deal with the weight of several pounds of metal as well.
Tomorrow is the Pitchshidfter and Sikth gig at the Astoria, followed by a metal night, which I'll be going to. I'm currently meeting
slickchickjen (and possibly
thessalian) at the top of the escalators in Tottenham Court Road tube station at about 5:30. Anyone who wants to meet up then, feel free...
