Right, now I've got a little sleep, time to report on a really good weekend...

Headed up to London on Friday afternoon, and hung around in the Devonshire Arms for a fair old while, having the odd drink, before the rest of my friends started to arrive. After a while, we all headed over to King's Cross (specifically, the Egg Club) for the opening night of Synthetic Culture, the successor to Full Tilt.

The venue was impressive, with 3 floors, labyrinthian corridors, and a nice outdoors area, as well as a balcony. Anyway, I met a number of people, with the lovely [livejournal.com profile] rx_ritalin being of particular note...

Anyway, that carried on till five in the morning, after which I crashed on a sofa in Arsenal for a few hours of dozing, before getting on the train to Nottingham, where I met up with [livejournal.com profile] thefounder.

We got to the Wake that evening, which was cool as usual- I met Mog and Shadow (who is trouble), and all and sundry. I'dve danced, but by that point I was just too knackered. All in all, a nice end to the birthday celebrations.

Travelling back to Exeter was a nightmare, but I will hopefully never have to do it again, as I move to London and my new lovely big flat in one week...

And now, the last week at work in Exeter...

A post by one of my friends on one of the forums I moderate...

Dear all,

Following in the footsteps of what I laughingly call "our leaders", I've decided to declare war on a nebulous, intangible concept for my own benefit.

Like the War on Terror, my new pat-pending War on Bullsh*t will stretch on indefinitely without ever actually yielding any clear results. Unlike the War on Terror, it won't cost billions, won't endanger lives, and won't curtail the civil liberties of the general public.

In my opening pre-emptive reprisal, I hereby slap WoB D-notices on the following gross acts of bullsh*t:

- "People only criticise George Bush/the US military because they're jealous of America."

- "Publishing evidence of wrongdoing on the part of US/UK troops is equivalent to treason/being a paedophile."

Any further attempt to peddle these theses will be met with extreme mockery.

(D'you think "Operation Enduring Sincerity" sounds pretentious enough?)

Yrs etc,

Grrr

Just found out from my father that my mother has been sacked by her school.

On the plus side, as a former union secretary, my father has gone through how the reduncancy statement was made, etc, and discovered 17 grounds for appeal thus far, 2 of which involve possible illegalities on the part of the school.

I get the distinct impression that the headmistress intended to just bully her way to what she wanted. Unfortunately, she picked the wrong family to try that with...we've already managed to delay things suitably so they'll have to pay my mother at least 6 months more salary.

But the school has been messing my mother around for some time now, so I'm not surprised they'd try something like this. I just have trouble believing they're stupid enough to actually think they can get away with it...
