Rant.

Okay, I am getting heartily sick and tired of something. I've noticed an increasing trend towards people using Christians as the example of ignorance and stupidity when sounding off about things.

For every vocal and loud intolerant, bigoted, right-wing Christian, there are loads of perfectly nice people who happen to hold to a particular belief system.

INTOLERANCE AND BIGOTRY ARE NOT A FUNCTION OF CHRISTIANITY, OKAY?

I've met intolerant, stupid and bigoted atheists, wiccans, pagans, muslims, sikhs, and many others. It's not even a function of organised religion, much as I dislike the concept of organised religion. People can be stupid and intolerant, regardless of race, colour or creed.

Have I made myself clear enough?

Good.

Please note that this is not directed at anyone in particular, it's just after reading yet another thread on the subject on one of the webboards I frequent, I felt the need to vent.

something else to consider...

I'd say that Christians probably have gotten the bad rap because of the fundis here in the states. So much of our "racial issues" seem to center around hate groups that claim they are the chosen people of God...such as the KKK. Now I'm not saying that we yanks corner the market on asshole christians, but maybe because there are so many on the net and because of how loud they proclaim their stupidity?

*shrug* Just a thought.

Yes, but it annoys me when people start making sweeping statements about Christians as a result, as it demonstrates the same sort of ignorance that the fundies show. And pisses me off, which is not the best plan in the world...
